Who is Jesus Christ? How do you get to know him, and how can you have eternal life?
First of all, know that God not only created you, but that he also loves you and wants you to have a personal relationship with Him. We know this from God’s word:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ” John 3:16 (NIV)
The problem is we are separated by God because of our sinful nature:
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23 (NIV)
Without our sins forgiven, we are in an eternal state of separation of God. But God didn’t want us to remain this way. He allowed Himself to pay the penalty for our sins, by sending his Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross, who later rose from the dead. Through God’s sacrifice, we can be forgiven of our sins, enter into a personal relationship with him, and have eternal life:
“if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (NIV)
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (NIV)
To accept Christ as your Savior, you must first admit that you are a sinner, and be willing to turn away from your sinful lifestyle (repent). Then you must believe that God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to die for your sins, and that he rose again from the dead. Finally, ask Jesus to forgive your sins and take control of your life so that you can follow Him as your Lord and Savior.
If you don’t know Christ, and you wish to receive him, then I urge you to pray this prayer right now:
“Dear Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I believe you died for my sins, and I want to turn from them. Please forgive me of my sins, and come into my heart, so that I may follow you as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.”
If you prayed this prayer, then God bless you! I would love to hear from you so I can pray for you!
So now that you have accepted Christ, what do you do now? Find other Christians and tell them about it, so that they can pray for you and give you encouragement. Look for a good Bible-believing church in your area and get involved in the ministry there. Most importantly, set aside some quiet time every day to spend with God praying and reading the Bible.
Some good links to check out:
The church I go to, Spotswood Baptist Church, has an excellent article on their web page on how to become a Christian, as does Billy Graham’s site. These pages cover the gospel in a little more detail than I have. Another site to check out is gotlife.org.
BibleGateway.com is an excellent online resource for looking up passages in the Bible.
Answers in Genesis is an excellent site with a wealth of information providing answers to tough questions about the Bible.
May God bless you and be with you!
